Max Turner - Life Member & Former Club Captain
Max Turner is a current Life Member & Former Club Captain of the Cooma Golf Club and for those of you who know and/or played with Max you will recall that he was (and still is) a highly respected member of our club. Some of you may not be aware that Max unfortunately suffered a stroke a couple of months ago and had a long stay in Canberra Hospital. Max has now been transferred back to Cooma Hospital where he will remain whilst he is recovering, until he is well enough to go home.
If anyone would like to visit Max to help brighten up his days whilst he is in hospital, Max’s wife Wilma has suggested that Tuesdays and Thursdays are the best days to drop in as Max has treatment on the other days. We all wish Max a speedy recovery.
Local Rules Update
There is a preferred lie through the green. No preferred lie in bunkers or hazards.
All mulched/bark areas are part of the general area of the course (play the ball how it lies). These areas include RHS of the 1st green, 15th tee and behind the 16th tee.
Junior Fundraiser - Saturday 14th September 2024
Our Junior Fundraiser will be taking place on Saturday 14th September - if your business is interested in sponsoring this event please contact Marcus Caldwell 0456 596 440 by COB Friday 16th August 2024. We are locking in all our sponsors before the weekend so that we can finalise the artwork and advertising for the event.
Mitre 10 have once again very generously donated a wheelbarrow for our wheelbarrow raffle so if everyone could bring in a donation for the wheelbarrow, large or small, that would be much appreciated. The wheelbarrow will be ready to accept donations in the Clubhouse from Saturday 17th August 2024 and tickets will be on sale shortly.
Proceeds from the Junior Fundraiser will go towards our Junior Coaching program as well as replacing our Greenskeepers Shed which was damaged in a fire earlier this year. A big thanks to Marcus for putting this event together once again.
Greens Coring
The coring & sanding of our greens will commence on Sunday 18th August 2024 in the afternoon. The tees and surrounds will also be vertidrained over the next week or so with some to also be top dressed. The course will remain open for play (competition & social) throughout, please remain patient while we complete this maintenance work.
9 Hole Anytime Competition
There will be a 9 Hole Anytime Competition starting next week Monday 19th August 2024. This competition can be played any day of the week - scores will be processed on Monday mornings. The new short course tees (Orange Tees) will be used for this competition.
To play in the 9 Hole Anytime you must play in groups of 2-4 and all players must have an official handicap. Competition fees will be $10 and can either be paid on the iPad in the Pro Shop Window (by card) or cash can be placed in the drop box underneath the iPad (use the envelopes provided). Competition fees must be paid before you commence your round and you may only play in the 9 Hole Anytime once per week.
The 9 Hole Anytime will alternate between the Front 9 and the Back 9 on alternate weeks. Please pay attention to the sign in the Pro Shop window.
